Ack! Life has been BUSY with lots of travel, a new part-time job, and car repair.
This summer, my husband, dog, and I drove our old Land Cruiser through the Northwest Territories, the Yukon, and Alaska. It was amazing to camp on the banks of Dawson City, think about Jack London and his amazing books I’d read as a child, and even get to watch a paddle wheel ply the muddy water (and see an authentic paddle wheel graveyard).
During all of that traveling, my husband and I picked up part-time jobs with Overland Expo, which features, promotes, and educates about traveling like we are doing and even more. I love my new tribe of coworkers as we commiserate about the difficulties of traveling thousands of miles with no support while needing to find wifi to get some work done. So even though it cuts into my writing time, it just feels right to be a part of such an amazing group and team.
But don’t think I’m not writing!
Work continues on a novella set in the world of Sundarkk and is over half way done. Plus, there are new short stories available HERE every month! It’s true! Check out the Exclusive Stories page to find free short stories, or, if you are looking for ones specific to the world of Myrrah, head over to the Untold Stories Page.
This month, I released Sardinia’s Shadows a story on Ty’s first visit to the dangerous port of Sardinia.
Last month, Water Girl, a short story about Niri’s arrival in the Temple of Solaire at the age of nine was released!
There have been others as well, including the first short story on the world of Sundarkk, A New Home, and one about Laith Lus as a young man (so set a LONG time before Born of Water) called Love & Leadership. Check them out and explore new worlds and characters with these free short stories. I hope you enjoy them!
I’m getting used to my life on the road. My husband and I are full-time overlanders (vehicle-based travelers), having sold our little cabin in Maine three years ago now. The hardest part has been that our current setup doesn’t have inside workspace other than sitting in the driver and passenger seat since we are in a Land Cruiser with a rooftop tent.
I finished writing A New Goddess while in the passenger seat on the road!
But that hardship is about to change. We’ve put a Four Wheel flatbed camper on order and are currently hunting for a slightly less rusty and fewer mileage (the Land Cruiser is at over 260,000 miles!) Toyota Tundra to put it on. We specifically want and need (due to size and engine) a 2005 or 2006. We’ve looked at FIVE and still haven’t found the one. Wish us luck!
I’m so excited about the camper and can’t wait to share photos… but it will be a couple of months yet. Hmmm… which will come first, our camper or the finished novella?? Stay tuned to see!
Oh yes, and I mentioned car repair! Part of owning a rusty and high mileage vehicle means maintenance. My main mechanical job is to clean the underside and apply fluid film, which coats the rust and keeps it from spreading. Yay? That project leads to photos like this!
