Friday brings the first release in my dark fantasy series Friends of my Enemy!
THAT has be excited! 😀
And getting it ready also has me behind on writing. 🙁
Not too far behind, but didn’t mean my goal. And with everything going on in my writing life right now, I’m thinking I may need to re-evaluate my goal more than how I spend my time. I certainly can’t say the writing isn’t going well. I finished the three chapters of the Fight for Peace set for the week and this week face chapters 24, 25, and 26. These set in motion the final crises for the series and are full of tension. I can’t wait to write them!
Which is probably why when I finished my weekly goal with chapter 23, I was jotting notes, and then the intro to chapter 25 (It popped into my head, what can I say?). Better than that, the set up for the ending of the novel clarified and I outlined events for the final chapters. Plans are for it to end with chapter 33, and in a character’s POV that I didn’t expect!
With all of that, plus final edits for the release on Friday, formatting, and a photo shoot for the cover of Battle for Europe, book 2 of Friends of my Enemy, I didn’t quite get a half chapter of Spark of Defiance written. 🙁 I did get over a page done and know where the chapter is going, so I’ll work on tackling it early this week.
But with a short release timeline (two weeks!) between short stories with Friends of my Enemy, I’m thinking I might have to relax the writing goals a bit until final edits are wrapped up. That is the logical choice, but hardly the emotional one. It would make sense to put Spark of Defiance on the back burner until I complete the final book of Friends of my Enemy. After all, then it will be my main WIP! But I really enjoy writing it. Just as I looked forward to tackling Friends of my Enemy as I finished Spirit of Life, I now love jumping from dark fantasy with no magic and struggling hope to epic fantasy with its magic and optimism!
But I also know how involved writing the crises of a story, especially the last crises in a trilogy! Often even when I try to pace myself, I get lost in the flow and push on. As is already happening! My stated goal is to finish the Fight for Peace by the end of March and then probably focus just on Spark of Defiance until edits are done with Stories from the War and After the War. And I want to keep working on Spark of Defiance a bit in March. But…
What will probably happen is that I’ll become totally absorbed in the Fight for Peace, occasionally pick away at Spark of Defiance, and finish writing the last book in Friends of my Enemy by mid-March. Whereupon I will collapse for lack of sleep and food because I obsessed so much over writing the ending! I wonder if my husband realized he’d be required to make sure I ate occasionally when he married me? 😉
Happy Reading and Writing!
