Without meaning to, I took a two week break from this blog. There was a time that would have driven me to guilt, but I’ve mellowed a bit. Life happens and when I have too many things going on, something has to give. If you are a fan, you should be happy to know that what gives first is blogging. Writing and editing on the other hand… I’ll miss work before I miss a writing deadline!
And though life was hectic the last two weeks, the break from writing posts gave me a chance to think about what to post next. I admit to having reached the end of a lengthy list of post topics. BUT… I have a new one. 🙂 And even better, in my eyes, I have ideas of what to post on Mondays, which are dedicated to telling stories and not talking about the art of writing – those posts are for Fridays!
You see in the next two weeks, I’ll have finished my final edits on Stories from the War the first part my newest WIP, Friends of my Enemy. This is a group of eleven interrelated short stories, telling the tale of dystopian future as it unfolds. After my edits are complete, I’ll be sending them to my publisher, Creativia, for their TLC and hopefully be announcing a publication date soon!
But what surprises me is that by the end of September I will also be finishing the first draft of After the War, the book that follows Stories from the War! Sure there are edits and rewriting ahead plus I need to write Battle for Europe, book 2, but… this isn’t a project I’m picking away at anymore. I’m about halfway through the work of creating the story. It really is past time to start telling people a little about it!
And I have somewhat. I released the first short story here. But there is so much information and background that those stories skate through. I hate bogging down a story with unneeded detail, but I love the backstory too. So expect to see some… unique Monday posts on my take of how the world dissolves into the chaos that sets the scene for Stories from the War. If you love dystopian stories or like to conjecture how crazy the world will become as we hurtle forward into climate change, epidemics, and desperate governments… well you are just going to love the Monday posts as I begin to fill out this timeline!
And lets not forget that I’m working on a new epic fantasy too. Games of Fire is going well and already adding some writing dilemmas I look forward to blogging about. And I’m only on chapter 8 of book 1!
