I love discovering new books and meeting new authors, especially when the books are great and I can tell you about a sale!
I bumped into author Nicola McDonagh on Facebook, and wouldn’t you know we both write dystopian! Her dystopian adventure series The Song of Forgetfulness not only looks great but targets the same reader age as my epic fantasy series the Rise of the Fifth Order (which is young to young at heart if you were wondering!). And how perfect to learn about a fascinating series the same week that book 1, Whisper Gathers is FREE – but only for two days! Get it on Amazon here!
Whisper Gathers – Book 1 in the Song of Forgetfulness series
The gripping dystopian adventure begins …
NotSoGreatBritAlbion is a land ravaged by famine and disease. Animal life is all but extinct and people are scattered, living in dread of the evil Agros that rule what is left of the human race – except for those who inhabit Cityplace. Here, in this sterile metropolis lives a unique girl with a special power. She is Adara – catcher of birds.
All seems normal until Agros cut food supplies and the special children start to go missing. Hunger brings starving outcasts from the Wilderness to the gates of Adara’s quiet world. So begins the fight to save her home and family from a savage and terrifying force.
I’m Adara. I’ve got six fingers on each hand.
And a secret I cannot share.
Santy knows, so does my bro. He’s a Meek.
A kiddle like the missing ones.
He’s in danger. As are we all.
Hunger sends Carnies and Praisebees to our perimeter.
There is a rustling in the wind.
Lights beyond the boundary fence.
A sign of Agro threat.
A murmur haunts Cityplace.
Something is coming.
Does Adara have the courage and strength to use her special powers and find her missing bro?
Or will the Agros join forces with the cannibal Carnies and destroy the peaceful folk of Cityplace, and beyond?

About The Song of Forgetfulness by Nicola McDonagh
Whisper Gatherers came about as a direct result of readers wanting more information about Adara’s life before she left Cityplace in search of her missing bro. Nicola thought it was great to flesh out characters mentioned in Echoes from the Lost Ones and make them come alive. It also gave her chance to show Adara’s more vulnerable and innocent side before she is changed by the horror of what she experiences as she travels the ravaged land of NotSoGreatBritAlbion.
The Song of Forgetfulness series began as a challenge from students that attended Nicola’s creative writing class in the local High School. They wanted her to write a book about a female protagonist in a future world that addressed issues about global warming, disease and the threat of world-wide food shortage.
Oh, and they wanted her to eat, go to the toilet and even menstruate!
Nicola was short-listed for the Escalator Genre Fiction Competition 2012 with an extract from Echoes from the Lost Ones; book 2 in the YA dystopian/sci-fi series, The Song of Forgetfulness. This gave her the courage to send it off to publishers. It was picked up by Fable Press who also published A Silence Heard. Unfortunately, the company closed down in June 2015. But she decided to self-publish all three books with Whisper Gatherers, as a trilogy. This is a relaunch for Nicola!
