Progress Takes Many Forms
I’m just down from the hill, which doesn’t mean much to you. To me, it means I’m back to my current abode after a full day of house building. A very long day actually.
Last weekend with the beautiful weather and longer days, my husband and I put in the longest work days we had since November last year. We actually skipped lunch to stay and work, grabbing only granola bars. Construction work after a decent breakfast and a lunch of granola bars surprisingly didn’t work out too well. I came back to the yurt (where we currently live) last weekend so loopy that I could barely cook a late lunch. Edit my WIP? Difficult. Post a blog post? Not a chance.
THAT is why my blog was silent last week.
I spend my weeknights primarily writing or editing and have a difficult time trying to fit in blog updates once the work week starts for some reason. I know that, which is why I usually schedule something during the week. After collapsing on the couch last Sunday, too exhausted to do more than sleep, I realized two things. One, I wasn’t going to get a blog post done. Two, I had to do something different this weekend.
So I did!
We actually worked until after 3 both days this weekend. We are finally at the stage in the house where what we are installing are the things you will see: siding on a ‘sleeping porch,’ a roof to the front porch (including storage – I love storage!), the massive antique farmhouse sink. It feels so good to see things coming together. But the biggest thing I did differently this weekend was that I made lunch up at the new house. The first time I’ve cooked in my new house in my new kitchen!
Of course, it was using a cookstove on top of the formerly mentioned massive, antique soapstone sink. (No gas lines for the actual stove . . . and no current plumbing for the sink. BUT, the sink is in the final location! THAT was a huge effort and step forward!) But hey, it was a first and it was great to have real food. It made all the difference too. Not only did we manage to work longer, I wasn’t half as tired or loopy during the afternoon as I was last weekend (read less measurement mistakes). AND, I have had the energy this weekend to not only continue edits but to put up something on my blog. I feel positively full of progress!
How are you doing in your life pursuits? What are the lessons learned and progress being made?
